Why You Should Attend Penang Anime Matsuri 2015 This Weekend

CharaExpo 2015 Second Press Conference should be up tomorrow. I'm already halfway through composing it. In the meantime, do take a look at some of the highlights for Penang Anime Matsuri, happening in Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia this weekend, May 23 and May 24!

Penang, Malaysia, 20 May 2015 – SOZO and Penang Global Tourism are all geared up to present the best of Japan’s pop culture, right here in George Town on 23^rd and 24^th May 2015.

The PAM2015 features a whole list of exciting activities throughout the day such as Japan’s latest animated movies, anime merchandise and thrilling Xcape games. At nightfall, the festival moves outdoors to the Matsuri Zone, Anime Night Market and Anisong & DJ Party Stage, where singers Mika Kobayashi, yanaginagi, Anisong DJs Hachioji-P and DJ’TEKINA//SOMETHING a.k.a. Yuyoyuppe will be performing.

Here are some of the not-to-be-missed HIGHLIGHTS at Dewan Sri Pinang and the Esplanade!

DEWAN SRI PINANG

• Anime Movie Screening

Four of the hottest titles will be screened during the festival where each boasts a record of at least a million dollars in the box office. They are Saint Seiya Legend of Sanctuary, Mobile Suit Gundam Origin 1: Blue Eyed Casval, K: Missing Kings and Detective Conan: Dimensional Sniper. 

• Anime Exhibition

The AFA Shop will showcase merchandise from 3 very exciting titles with some being very exclusive or limited in Japan. The exhibition in Dewan Sri Pinang will also feature the various talents of aspiring artists, selling their creations at the Creators’ Hub. The regional premier broadcaster – ANIMAX, will also be participating in the exhibition.

• Cosplay Competition

On both dates, from 12 noon till 3pm, get spotted by our guest cosplayers at the event grounds and walk away with cash prizes by winning the Penang Anime Matsuri’s Cosplay Singles Competition on the 24^th May at 3:30pm.

• Workshops

Learn something from the cosplayers and illustrators attending the matsuri by attending their workshops. Not only do you get to enjoy their presence, but you can also find out how they accomplish perfection in what they do.

• XCAPE Game

Immerse yourself in the secret world of Kaguyaku! XCAPE PENANG brings you the best experience of ‘escape game’ at PAM2015! Attractive prizes await you at the end of your exploration. The Xcape Game will be located at the Ground floor of Dewan Sri Pinang.

ESPLANADE

• Matsuri Experience Zone

PAM2015 collaborates with Yosakoi Penang to bring you an exclusive Matsuri Experience Zone on both dates from 5pm – 11pm! Don’t miss this chance to showcase your kimono and celebrate the anime matsuri with traditional activities like gold fish scooping, ramune toss, yoyotsuri, marble pachinko and more!

• Anisong & DJ Party Stage

Featuring the most popular anime song artistes & DJs from Japan! Enjoy non-stop remixes of familiar Vocaloid (voice synthesizer) and Anisongs (anime songs) from our guest DJs, Hachioji-P as well as DJ’TEKINA//SOMETHING a.k.a. Yuyoyuppe. Also don’t miss the soothing vocals of songstress Mika Kobayashi and yanaginagi. All of them will be coming to Penang for the first time.

COSPLAY X PENANG PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION

There will also be a photography competition where cosplayers and photographers will submit cosplay photographs at various locations in Penang to win a trip to Singapore's AFASG 2015! This competition is aimed at bringing out the essence of cosplay around the unique locations in Penang. This competition will be organised from 20^th to 31^st May and winners will be selected by our Cosplay Guests Angie, Mon, Hana & Baozi, Shimo and YingTze.

PAM2015 is the brainchild of SOZO, the company behind the Anime Festival Asia, and Penang Global Tourism, Penang’s tourism bureau. It will be supported by Anime Festival Asia, the state of Penang and the Consulate-General of Japan in Penang. The organisers would do their best to bring the joy and celebration of a unique outdoor Japanese Pop Culture experience to the whole family in Penang while supporting the youth and creativity in the state! The Penang Anime Matsuri sets the bar as the event for all to enjoy regardless of age, religion and gender and attracts not only tourist but also Malaysian fans of Cosplay which has a large fanbase in Malaysia.

Ticket sale for the concert will start at 3pm on the 14^th of March via Peatix, http://peatix.com/ , priced at RM128 inclusive of 2 days exhibition. Attendees can also purchase tickets on the event day.
